When the same conversation keeps going in circles.

Perhaps you feel distant, keep returning to the same disagreement, or are facing a change that has unsettled your relationship. You may want to reconnect, work through a breach of trust, or understand whether and how to move forward together.

Couples therapy gives you a dedicated setting to explore these questions. The aim is to understand what each person is experiencing and agree on meaningful goals, without assuming that every relationship should reach the same outcome.

  • Communication and recurring conflict
  • Emotional distance and disconnection

Couples and marriage counselling in Pretoria East.

Whether you call it couples therapy, relationship counselling or marriage counselling, you can begin by discussing what has brought you here. Riaan meets couples at the Silver Lakes practice and online by arrangement.

You may want to explore recurring arguments, emotional distance, rebuilding trust or preparing for a shared future. You do not need to be married to enquire, and the first conversation helps establish what support is appropriate for both of you.

Working together

An approach you understand.

Riaan’s practice focuses on emotional connection and relationship patterns. The work may include exploring how you respond to one another, noticing familiar cycles, and practising different ways to communicate. You will discuss the proposed approach, confidentiality arrangements, and how individual information is handled in joint sessions.

Your first appointment

A conversation to begin with.

Bring your questions and an idea of what each of you would like from the process. The practitioner will explain how sessions are structured and whether joint work is appropriate. You do not need to resolve the disagreement before the first meeting.

Riaan offers in-person sessions at Silver Lakes and online appointments. Confirm the current fee and duration before booking. The practice has a 24-hour cancellation policy.

Current fee information: Advertised 90-minute couples appointment: R2,200 in South Africa. See Fees for international rates and six-session packages.

Availability: By appointment, subject to suitability and availability.

Fees & practical details

A few things you may be wondering.

Do we both need to attend?

Joint sessions usually involve both partners. If one person is unsure, ask the practice how an initial enquiry or individual appointment could work.

Is couples therapy always suitable?

Suitability needs to be assessed. If there is fear, coercion, or an immediate safety concern, explain this privately to the practitioner before arranging joint sessions.
